引言：Alice is sitting by her sisters on the riverside when suddenly she falls into a deep sleep. During it she falls down a rabbit hole and enters a curious dream world where she meets unusual characters along the way, like The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, and The Queen of Hearts……
Hello, everybody! 欢迎你们继续来到bookworm reading time.今天要给你们讲一讲 Alice’s Adventures in Wonderlands的大结局。在上期节目的最后，国王传召了第二位证人。这位证人究竟是谁呢？让赶紧来啃一啃今天的书。
第二位证人是公爵夫人的厨师，她生气的说自己不想作证。
The next witness was the Duchess’s cook, who spoke very angrily and said that she would not give any evidence.
国王有点着急，
The King looked worried and told the White Rabbit to call another witness.
兔子看了看纸上的名单，喊出了第三位证人的名字。
Alice watched while the White Rabbit looked at the names on his piece of paper. Then, to her great surprise, he called out loudly, “Alice!”
“到！”爱丽丝立刻站起来回答。
“Here!” cried Alice, jumping to her feet.
国王开始了他的询问。关于果馅饼你都知道什么？
“What do you know about these tarts?”
爱丽丝回答说，Nothing. 王后盯着爱丽丝。
The Queen was looking hard at Alice. Now she said, “All people a mile high must leave the room.”
【单词拓展】·look hard at sb.：这里是指盯着某人看。英文里面有一个短语叫做take a long, hard look at sth. 意思就是仔细地审视某物。
爱丽丝说，
“I’m not a mile high, and I won’t leave the room. I want to hear the evidence.”
国王则飞快的答道，
“There is no more evidence.”
就在国王准备让陪审团宣布判决结果时，兔子突然跳了出来，他找到了一封匿名信。
“Your Majesty!” said the White Rabbit, jumping up in a great hurry. “We’ve just found this letter. There’s no name on it, but I think the Knave wrote it.”
【单词拓展】·no name on it：这里是说这是一封匿名信。英文里面专门有一个单词叫anonymous，意思就是匿名的。所以匿名信也可以说an anonymous letter。
红桃J大声否认这封信是自己写的。
“No, I didn’t.” said the Knave loudly.
这时，国王让兔子从到尾地把信念一遍。
“Begin at the beginning,” said the King, “and go on until you get to the end, then stop.”
于是，兔子开始念这封信：
They tell me you have been to her,And talked of me to him.She thought I was a gardener,But said I could not swim.
He tells them that I have not gone,(We know that this is true).If she decides to hurry on,What will they do to you?
I gave her one, they gave him two,You gave us three or more.They all returned from him to you,But they were mine before.
这是一封信，和上一集里兔子念的东西一样，也是隔行押韵。信的内容很奇怪，说的是：他们告诉我你去过她那儿，还向他提起我。她以为我是个园丁，但说我不会游泳。他告诉他们我还没有走，（我们知道这是真的）。如果她决定快点，他们会把你怎么样？我给她一个，他们给他两个，你给我三个或更多。他们都从他那儿回到你那里，但他们曾是我的。
不过国王认为这是很重要的证据。
“That’s a very important piece of evidence,”said the King. He looked very pleased.
正当他要让陪审团做出判决时，爱丽丝打断了他。
“If anybody in the jury can explain that letter,” said Alice, “I’ll give him sixpence. It’s all nonsense! It doesn’t mean anything.”
【单词拓展】·sixpence：六便士。英国过去的一种硬币。英国作家毛姆有一本非常著名的小说，名字就叫做The Moon and Sixpence，《月亮和六便士》。
·pence：英国货币的最小单位是便士penny，100便士等于1英镑（英镑叫做pound）。它的复数是pence，符号为p，所以10便士可以说10 pence也可以说10p。
·nonsense：胡言乱语。
国王则说，信里有I could not swim这句话。他问红桃J：“你会游泳吗？”红桃J的表情很难过。“我看起来像会游泳的人吗？”红桃J说。他确实不会游泳，因为扑克牌是纸做的。
“You can’t swim, can you?”The Knave’s face was sad. “Do I look like a swimmer?”he was made of paper.
【单词拓展】·made of：由…做的。和它很相似的一个短语是made from，意思差不多，但是用法上有些不同， made of能够看出原材料，而made from不能。例如纸牌是用纸做的，我们能够看到纸，所以用made of paper。而玻璃的原料是沙子，但我们看不出沙子，所以用made from sand。在举个例子，比如说纸盒子是纸做的，the paper box is made of paper, 一看就能看出来。不过纸是木头做的，通过纸不能看到木头的影子，那就应该说the paper is made from wood.
国王笑了。他说，
“I understand everything now. There are the tarts, and here is the Knave of Hearts. And now the jury must decide who the thief is.”
王后却不同意，她希望先砍头再宣判。
“No, no!”said the Queen. “Off with his head! The jury can say what it thinks later.”
爱丽丝实在坐不住了，她觉得怎么可以这么做。她大叫起来。王后气的脸都红了，她命令爱丽丝安静。爱丽丝则说，I won’t! 我就不。
“What nonsense!” said Alice loudly. “The jury must decide first. You can’t–” “Be quiet!”said the Queen, her face turning red.
这时，王后尖叫道，
“Off with her head.”
但是没有人动，
nobody moved.
爱丽丝说，你说什么不重要。你们不过是一副扑克牌。
“It doesn’t matter what you say. You are only a pack of cards!”
这时，奇妙的事情发生了。
The pack of cards flew up into the sky and began to fall on Alice’s face. She gave a little scream… and woke up.
原来，这些都是爱丽丝的一个梦！
She was lying next to her sister under the trees, and some leaves were falling on her face.
她躺在姐姐旁边，脸上掉了几片落叶。哦，我做了个非常奇怪的梦，然后她把梦中的奇遇告诉了姐姐。
“Oh, I’ve had a very curious dream!”She told her sister all about the strange adventures in her wonderful dream.
好啦，同学们，爱丽丝的故事到这里就圆满结束了。原来这些奇遇都是她发生在她的梦中！
